
The first year of dedicating November as "National American Indian Heritage Month" was in 1990, Under President Barack Obama in 2009, the celebration title was changed to "National Native American Heritage Month."


In mid-October 1976, President Gerald R. Ford proclaimed the first national, week-long observance for American Indians: "Native American Awareness Week."

It wasn't until 1924 that all Native Americans were granted citizenship, after Congress enacted the Indian Citizenship Act.


In September 1915, the president of the Congress of the American Indian Association, Reverend Sherman Coolidge (an Arapahoe), worked with the goal of making American Indian Day observed across the nation, as well as fought for U.S. citizenship for Native Americans.


This past weekend Case King was at a livestock show in Winnsboro and won Grand Champion lightweight sheep, Reserve Champion medium weight sheep and Showmanship.
Case also is involved in Ag. Mechanics through Caddo Mills Jr. FFA and recently competed at the State Fair. He won a blue ribbon in his class and placed 2nd in livestock handling division

Dr. Arthur C. Parker, of the Seneca nation, fought for an "American Indian Day" to be recognized within the Boy Scouts of America, between 1912-1915.

McAfee third in Greenhand Creed Speaking.
Greenhand Quiz team finished 2nd- 4/5 team members were 8th graders.
CMMS Greenhand Chapter Conducting Team finished 7th- 5/7 of them were 8th graders.
